Apple Sends Invites To Oct. 22 iPad Event

If you've been anxiously awaiting to see what's next for Apple's iPad or iPad mini, you won't have to wait much longer.
Apple sent invitations to members of the press for an event to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. Rumors indicate the company will introduce the first tablets designed specifically for iOS 7, which officially launched in September and is already available for download on previous iPad and iPad mini models.
One of the biggest rumors surrounding the new 7.9-inch iPad mini is the introduction of a "retina" display, possibly matching the big-screen iPad's pixel count of 2,048 x 1,536. However, this isn't a shoo-in feature: Some reports indicate supplies of such high-resolution displays are too limited, so retina might not come to the iPad mini until early 2014.
Meanwhile, the fifth-generation iPad is rumored to be lighter and thinner (with a less thick bezel) than its predecessor. We could also see an improved camera with an 8-megapixel sensor, up from 5MP in latest models. Similar to the iPhone 5S, the aperture is expected to increase, too, which would increase detail and produce less grainy photos.
The new iPad could also include some of the other bells and whistles of the iPhone 5S' camera, including a slow-motion effect which allows you to select a part of the film to be played back at a slower speed. Another feature could be the the addition of Touch ID, the fingerprint sensor that recently made its way to the iPhone 5S.
