Hulu Plus has added iOS support for Google's popular Chromecast device, which plugs into any HDTV to let you watch online videos from your tablet, smartphone or computer, the company announced on its official blog on Monday.
Hulu Plus first came to Chromecast on iPad and Android earlier this month.
Rumors have long circulated that the $35 HDMI dongle, which debuted this summer, would bring Hulu Plus content to users. The device already supports Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Netflix and YouTube, and compatibility with HBO is also said to be in the works.

The Hulu Plus app also allows users to browse content, pause shows and add episodes to a queue, while simultaneously "casting" it to a TV.
"The Hulu Plus integration with Chromecast will convert your app into a custom remote letting you control video on your Chromecast connected TVs, while allowing you to browse the Hulu Plus app directly from your iPhone," Karan Nischol, Hulu's senior product manager, wrote in the statement.
But this might not be the first time Chromecast users are accessing Hulu content. A study from Parks Associates revealed about 33% of Chromecast users are are bypassing Hulu Plus' $8 monthly subscription cost by accessing the free PC version online and streaming it to the device.
Although Chromecast is only available in the United States right now, international users have reportedly been able to access the Android app in the Google Play store. The news could hint to a possible launch of the Chromecast in other markets.

'Star Wars Rebels' Unveils Sinister New Villain: The Empire's Inquisitor

Lucasfilm premiered the villain of its upcoming animated television show Star Wars Rebels at New York Comic Con on Saturday, introducing fans to the Empire's new sinister agent: the Inquisitor.
Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni debuted the lightsaber-wielding bad guy, who is "tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights," in a video shown during a panel that ended with the Inquistor's reveal.
Flanked by Stormtroopers, the onscreen animation of the Inquisitor prompted loud applause. Lucasfilm's Pablo Hidalgo, who hosted the one-man panel, said fans can now reasonably assume "there is a Jedi that is involved somewhere" in Star Wars Rebels, which is set to premiere in fall 2014.
"The big question is, 'What is the Jedi's role on the show?'" Hidalgo said. "Exactly who the Inquistor works with or connects to, I cannot get into." He did say the Inquisitor must ensure any Jedi is "wiped out."

Aside from unveiling the Inquisitor, Hidalgo displayed show art, including sketches of planet Lothal and animated renderings of characters and Imperial vehicles created specifically for Star Wars Rebels. Check out the gallery, below, to see photos.
Lucasfilm and Disney XD had said Star Wars Rebels takes place between Episodes III and IV, but Hidalgo elaborated further, revealing the show will occur 14 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. At that time, the Empire is seeking to expand power on other planets, such as Lothal, where it begins to recruit young residents to become TIE fighters and Stormtroopers.
StarWars.com describes the art shown at New York Comic Con as follows:
The show is fully embracing the Star Wars legacy, taking direct inspiration from the original trilogy and its concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. Hidalgo displayed new Star Wars Rebels imagery and animation models for Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, and TIE fighter pilots, all of which fit seamlessly with classic Star Wars. Additionally, Hidalgo introduced several new Imperial vehicles and designs created for the series: the All Terrain Defense Pod (AT-DP), a ground attack walker based on an early Joe Johnston (the filmmaker who designed Boba Fett's armor and speeder bikes, and made other major contributions to Star Wars) illustration from 1979; the new AT-DP pilot, which blends designs of the classic AT-AT walker driver from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and the AT-ST walker pilot from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi; the Imperial Troop Transport, which comes from an early Kenner toy that was actually not based on designs from the films; and the Imperial freighter, a reimagining of an Imperial-style craft designed for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace by concept artist Doug Chiang, featuring a dock to transport TIE fighters from system to system.

Facebook isn't just for your high school friends and celebs promoting their next movie.
Even though Facebook profiles seem to be split into two groups — brands trying to advertise and people trying to socialize — there's a third type of account on Facebook that deserves some attention.
In fact, some of our favorite accounts on Facebook are projects and ideas that utilize the social media giant to spread the word. Whether they're making us laugh, empowering us or teaching us new things, these nine public social media pages provide an excellent break from all those baby pictures and engagement announcements.
Here some list of excellent facebook page:
1. A Girl's Guide to Taking Over the World

Move over, Spice Girls. This Facebook page aggregates news and content from all over the web about women's rights and women who are kicking serious butt (what's up, Malala?).

2. Humans of New York

Based on the blog from Brandon Stanton, Humans of New York features the portraits and stories of the colorful inhabitants of New York City.

3. Post Secret

Have a guilty conscience or a hidden desire? You can get it off your chest on the Post Secret Facebook page, which anonymously posts the secrets of thousands of followers all over the world.

4. God

This religious parody page has gathered over one million followers and -- it seems -- just as many haters. The controversial page answers follower's questions, grants blessings to those doing good in the world and generally gives an uplifting message with just a touch of smartass.

5. Pusheen

You may know him as the cat in the Facebook emoticons, but Pusheen has been delighting followers with adorable comics for over a year now.

6. Shit My Dad Says

We've all got that relative who says hilariously inappropriate things. Justin Halpern posts his dad's to Facebook, to the tune of 1.4 million likes.

7. Texts From Last Night

It started as a website, but TFLN has now spread to social media. Followers can submit their own drunken texts to be posted on the page or turned into a shareable image, so even if you don't remember what you did last night, 1.7 million other people can remind you.

8. George Takei

Another aggregator, George Takei's Facebook page is less about self-promotion and more about funny, timely memes and photos from around the web.

9. I Fucking Love Science

With a whopping 7 million likes, I Fucking Love Science not only shares the latest from the scientific world, it also makes your Biology teacher really proud of you.

Disney Research To Develops Tactile 3D Touchscreen
03:42 0 comments

When some of us hear the name Disney Research, the immediate assumption is that it’s a lab devoted to developing better animatronics or some other similarly whimsical application of bleeding-edge technology. But a new development from the lab could completely change the way we use touchscreens by adding realistic tactile feedback to the 3D images displayed.
In a new video (see above), Disney Research shows off a process it calls “rendering 3D tactile features on touch surfaces.” For the project, the researchers used an electrovibration-based display and a new algorithm developed in-house to allow the human hand to feel the textures of objects as presented on the screen.
The algorithm maps the frictional forces between the screen and the user’s finger to the surface contours of the virtual 3D image presented on the touchscreen. This dynamic allows the system to adjust to various virtual surface sensations on the fly, rather than offering canned sensations as some tactile touchscreen feedback experiments have demonstrated in the past.
This tactile touch system works on everything from map topographies, animals and any number of 3D-rendered objects. The researchers plan to present their findings later this week at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology in Scotland.
“Touch interaction has become the standard for smartphones, tablets and even desktop computers, so designing algorithms that can convert the visual content into believable tactile sensations has immense potential for enriching the user experience,” Ivan Poupyrev, director of the Pittsburgh’s Interaction Group at Disney Research, said in a statement.
“We believe our algorithm will make it possible to render rich tactile information over visual content and that this will lead to new applications for tactile displays.”

Tiny Remote Is Like A Swiss Army Knife For Your Smartphone
02:16 0 comments

Technologists in India have developed a Bluetooth-enabled device that can serve as a lost-and-found, a personal photographer, a pet sitter and a home security system.
Gecko is about the size of a quarter and can be programed to perform a host of functions — kind of like your smartphone's very own Swiss Army knife.
Through low-energy Bluetooth technology, Gecko is a tiny wireless remote that lets you control your smartphone by shaking or turning it. You can program certain gestures to make an emergency call or skip to the next track on your playlist. It can be synced to your smartphone's camera or a DSLR to take photos remotely, meaning your selfies aren't limited to your arm's length anymore.
The device can also operate as a motion detector that sends alerts to your phone when it moves. Attach it to a door as a security feature, and you'll receive an alert whenever the door opens. A Gecko attached to your dog's collar will let you know if he escapes from the backyard.
Or you can set it to alert you when things don't move, too. Stick Gecko to loved one's a pill box, and it will send you an alert if the box was not touched at a scheduled time (meaning that a dose was missed).
The device's track-and-find function will also let you track down your smartphone — or any item that Gecko is attached to — if it's misplaced.
Gecko's built-in ambient temperature sensor allows for climate tracking, too. The device can monitor the temperature in your home and send your smartphone an alert if it becomes too hot or too cold. Bahubali Shete, CEO of Connovate Technology Private Limited, the company behind Gecko, said the temperature function is ideal for parents who want to monitor the temperature of their children's rooms. You can pair multiple Geckos to one smartphone.
The Gecko team still needs about $7,000 to reach its $50,000 funding goal on Indiegogo. Backers can pick one up for an early bird pledge of $20. Shete said Gecko will begin shipping by Christmas.
Gecko requires a Bluetooth 4.0 capable device: the iPhone 4S and above, Android phones running Android 4.3 or Samsung devices running 4.2.
