Samsung plans to launch a smartphone with a curved screen in October, the company has announced.
Samsung's mobile business head of strategic marketing D.J. Lee announced the move during the Galaxy Note 3 launch event in Seoul, Wednesday.
No specifics about the device were given, not even its name. According to Engadget, however, the device will have a curve-shaped OLED panel but it will not be "completely flexible."
Samsung's recently introduced Galaxy Gear smart watch was rumored to have a curved screen, but it turned out to be a flat, 1.63-inch AMOLED display.
We know, however, that Samsung is interested in launching a phone with a flexible display since CES 2013, where the company showed a prototype of such a device called Youm. Whether the upcoming device is a continuation of the ideas behind Youm or an entirely new phone remains to be seen.
